Earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians New York won the toss and chose to let Seattle Orcas bat first. Quinton de Kock played well and hit two boundaries in the second over. However, Rashid Khan dismissed De Kock’s opening partner, Nauman Anwar, for 9 runs off 13 balls in the fifth over. Shehan Jayasuriya supported De Kock but got out for 16 runs off 15 balls in the tenth over.
After Heinrich Klaasen’s early dismissal, De Kock and Shubham Ranjane built a good partnership, adding 51 runs from 24 balls to take Orcas’ score to 142/4 in 16.1 overs. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Dwaine Pretorius’ quick 21 runs from 7 balls helped Orcas reach a competitive total.
Nicholas Pooran, who was the leading run-scorer in the tournament and the MVP of MLC Season 1, expressed his pride in the team’s performance. He credited the collective effort of everyone in the team and mentioned that the team encouraged him to bat freely.
Meanwhile, Seattle Orcas’ Captain Wayne Parnell praised Pooran’s outstanding performance and gave credit to his team for playing well. He acknowledged the successful organization of the first MLC season and appreciated the team owners and management for their support.
In the end, Mumbai Indians New York chased down the target, scoring 184/3, with Pooran playing an unbeaten knock of 137 runs, leading his team to a 7-wicket victory over Seattle Orcas, who had scored 183/9.
